Why I believe pornography is a misunderstood form of art

Society has created a mentality where such a thing as pornography is taboo, even though the act is a natural part human existence. Whether pornography should be classified as an art form or not has been around for such a long time that it has brought controversy around the world. Many believe that there are many factors that differentiate the two, while others consider pornography as a branch of art. If art is an expression that can cause someone to feel a form of emotion, how is pornography any different?

Many articles have been written concerning the topic of whether pornography is considered art or not. One source is entitled, “Art and Pornography: Philosophical Essays,” by Hans Maes and Jerrold Levinson. This article states many of the reasons pornography and art are hard to divide because one or the other will always be found on the other category, whether it be art in pornography or pornography in art. Another source on this topic is entitled, The Focal Encyclopedia of Photography by Michael Peres. Peres discusses how there is a range of pornography that can either be esthetically pleasing or not, whether it be erotic photography to hardcore stereotypical movies. A final article on the topic is found on the website: http://news.bbc.co.uk. The article “What’s the Difference between Art and Porn?” discusses how one person’s idea of what art is or not, is entirely subjective.

Pornography and art are not different. Pornography can be found in any type of art, pornography is simply a genre within art. A source stated earlier notes that pornography has been seen early as photography has been created, and how photographers have used tactics of nudity and eroticism in fashion.Art is a form of expression and a way of depicting a certain emotion or feeling, it all depends on the personal opinion of the individual. Therefore, Pornography is a branch of art. Art can be beautiful or ugly, modest or explicit. Art has an expressive intent and pornography, though it is not tasteful at times, still has intent of expressing some kind of feeling and emotion.
